LARE ISSUE # 1:
AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT - Lori Foster
I'm really excited about presenting this very special interview with hot n' spicy,
New York Times Bestselling romance author Lori Foster.......
Lori published her first novel with Harlequin Books in January 1996. Her second book launched the Harlequin Temptation's sub-series line Blaze, and her 25th book launched the Temptation Heat sub-series.
Lori cranks out an amazing 6 to 10 releases a year!!! She's a Waldenbooks, USA Today, and New York Times bestseller with over 40 books published with Kensington, Berkley/Jove, St. Martins, Harlequin, and Silhouette. She's also managed to attain the prestigious Romantic Times career achievement award and her book Too Much Temptation (one of my favorites) was the top selling romance title for Amazon in 2002.
LOVE and ROMANCE, ETC's interview with Lori....
LARE: What made you decide to become a romance writer?
LORI: I'd read some really good, compelling romances. I was so awed by
the power of the stories that I wanted to write one too.
LARE: Out of all the wonderfully sexy stories you've created - which one
is your favorite?
LORI: Actually I have several faves. Caught In The Act, because of Mick.
I just fell in love with his character. And When Bruce Met Cyn, because
of Cyn. She really touched my heart. I think this was one of those books
that I *had* to write. And Jamie, which won't be out until June of this
year. In each of these books, there's a very vulnerable character who
triumphs over some really awful personal issues. I believe in the power
of human spirit, and especially in the power of love - the type of
unconditional, understanding, forgiving love that we like to write
about, and that I know in my heart truly exists.
LARE: Which one of your heroes is the one you fell in love with the most?
LORI: That'd be Mick, from the above story. He's a very strong character
who triumphed over his problems. We're all human and we're all allowed
to make mistakes. Correcting those mistakes and choosing a better way
is what makes us humane, as well as human.
LARE: How long had you been writing before your first sale?
LORI: I think it was around 5 years or so.
LARE: What do you like the most about being a romance author? Have
you ever considered another genre?
LORI: I love the healing power of love, so the romance is what draws
me, and the happy ending. I insist on a happy ending in all my forms
of entertainment. And sure, I'd love to some day write straight horror.
*LARE: What do you like the least about being a romance author?
LORI: The politics of some organizations, and how some authors
think there's only one right way to do it. Apparently, from all
I've learned, I always manage to do it the

*LARE: What story are you working on right now? Can you tell us about it?
LORI: I'm working on a Kensington single title, and nope, I can't tell
you about it.
Discussing a story detracts from my motivation to write it. Once I've
told it, either verbally,or in written text, it's told. Period, Bury
it and move on. LOL. So I don't discuss my books until they're done,
unless the characters are reoccurring from an ongoing series, and
everyone already knows them. That's not the case in this book.
*LARE: Did you have a mentor or a favorite author you looked up to
before you became published?
LORI: Several! Stella Cameron was a huge influence, especially with her
generous nature.
And I've always admired Jayne Ann Krentz, Linda Howard and Catherine Coulter
for the time they gave to the genre and the organizations.
*LARE: Have you ever had an idea for a story that your editor just wouldn't
go for?
LORI: I had plenty of ideas that Harlequin didn't like, but I ended up
writing them for Kensington. Let's see, two of them would be Unexpected,
with a female mercenary, and When Bruce Met Cyn, which has a preacher and
a prostitute.
*LARE: Out of all the romance novels you've read (that weren't your own)
which one has remained your favorite and why?
LORI: I can't name just one, but here are some: Honor's Splendor, by Julie Garwood. Very romantic and touchy. Mackenzie's Mountain and Dream Man, by Linda Howard. So much emotion, and so hot! Perfect Partners, by Jayne Ann Krentz, and Scandal, by her historical pseudonym, Amanda Quick, because the characters are perfect, and they each contain one of the funniest lines I've ever read in a romance!
